When installing ceramics and tile, whether it's flooring for kitchen, swimming pool or patio deck, the process should include waterproofing the substrate prior to the tile installation. Many problems can be avoided by applying a waterproofing system beneath the tiles.  The lack of proper waterproofing, not create a seal under the tile, would lead to costly problems in the long term, as your building ages.
